Whatever you call it...house is disco. It's roots, it's beat, it's distinctive vocal rythms are all disco. Yes, house has spread far beyond its original seminal home in the gay and black clubs of New York to (first) Chicago, then to other parts of the U.S. and eventually Europe. But the heart and soul of disco is still there, no matter how much they drop the synth and amp up the bass and delete the vocals. My concept of house is Larry and Frankie pushing disco to a better place, a better day. Both are New Yorkers. Chicago owes us here in NYC a debt of gratitude that Larry passed on dj'ing at the Warehouse and sent his unemployed best friend instead. Frankie could have turned them down had he not needed the job.

Frankie and Larry continued to influence each other and the direction of house together. Frankie would come here and Levan would go to Chicago often. They were both gay djs who dj'ed at gay clubs. And the fact that the gay community has never received much credit for the ceation of house is incredible. The Paradise Garage and the Warehouse were nothing if not gay clubs. It was the reaction of the queens on the dancefloor that decided what they would play and what worked and what didn't work. One day, when all is said and done, there should be a documentary that starts with the Stonewall riots (yes, disco was playing as the faggots beat the NYPD) and continues on to the shores of Ibiza, London and Italy.
